How to Shopping Online
#
Step 1: Find Reliable Product Reviews and Information
Do some research before you buy! (Photo by Steve Woods)
* No matter what you want to buy, be it a blender or a computer, it’s always a good idea to research it first. How else will you find out if the latest Banana Jr. computer has been recalled three times, or the BlendAll blender doesn’t actually blend much of anything? The steps below will tell you how to find the best resources on the Web to research what you’re planning to buy.
o If you already know what you want to buy, check Step 2 for advice on how to find the best price and Step 3 to learn which online retailers you can trust.

Product Buying Guides
* If you’re trying to get more information on a general product category, buying guides can be very helpful.
1. To find buying guides on a wide number of items, go to ShopWiki.
* Choose the category your product falls into. On the category page, select your product and you will be directed to the appropriate buying guide.
2. For technology items, go to CNET Reviews.
* Find the category you’re interested in by scrolling down the page and clicking on it.
* In the column labeled “Buying Advice” (on the left-hand side of the page), click on the buying guide for that category.

#
Product Reviews
* With the Web, you can find reviews on almost any product.
1. Go to ConsumerSearch. This site compiles and cross-references reviews from many sources.
2. In the box in the upper right-hand corner, type in the name of the item you’re researching.
3. Scroll past the four “Ads by Google” at the top of your search results, to the section just below the word “Web”.
4. Read the item headings and click on the appropriate link for what you want to buy.
5. Scan over the information presented to get a quick idea of what the best-reviewed product is.
6. Click on “Full Story” to get a thorough, detailed overview of all products.

Research a Specific Product
* Now that you know specific makes and models you might like to buy, it’s good to get feedback on what other consumers thought when they purchased the product!
1. Return to to ShopWiki.
2. Type the name of the specific make and model of product you’d like to research into the Search field.
3. Click Search.
4. Click on the specific item you’d like to read up on.
5. Click on the “Product Reviews” tab to read reviews from Amazon.com, Target, Epinions.com, and other resources, all compiled into one page.
* Other great sources for product reviews are:
o Product reviews for all topics: Consumer Reports – please note that Consumer Reports is a subscription service, so full product reviews may not be available.
o Technology reviews: CNET, PC World, PC Magazine
#
Step 2: Comparison Shop
Comparison shopping means you won’t waste money. (Photo by Sanja Gjenero)
* In the days before the Internet, if you wanted to compare prices at different shops, you actually had to walk or drive from store to store. The following websites allow you to compare prices across hundreds of Internet sites at the click of a mouse.
o Important tips to keep in mind:
1. Always check the price of shipping! If Shop A has a higher price but offers free shipping, it’s better than Shop B’s low price + high shipping.
2. For big-ticket items, you may feel more comfortable using a trusted retailer. In that case, check these sites to see what the average price sale price is for your item; that way you know what price range to expect from your favorite store.
3. Check the return policy; the peace of mind you get with a clear return policy may be worth a few extra dollars. I very like this Louis Vuitton Store.
#
How to Use Shopzilla
1. Go to Shopzilla.
2. In the search window, type in as much information about the product as you can.
* If you are just looking for a blender, type “blender”; if you know you want the Oster Beehive Chrome Blender, type “Oster Beehive Chrome Blender” into the search window.
3. If the results aren’t exactly what you’re looking for, Shopzilla offers the opportunity to limit them to a different category.
* For example, if you type in “grill” and are looking for a grill for your car, you can click on “Automotive Accessories” in the “Search in Other Departments” option at the top of the page.
4. Use the options in the left-hand column to narrow your search results by brand, price range, color.
5. Click on the specific item you are interested in to learn where to find the best price.
6. Look in the “Store Ratings” column to learn what other people think of the store that has the best deal. If it has a red, frowning face in that column, that means it has a very bad rating.
7. If the store has not been rated and you are interested in it, then skip down to Step 3 to learn how to determine if an unknown retailer is trustworthy.
#
How to Use Google Product Search
1. Go to Google Product Search.
2. Type information about the product you are searching for in the “Search” box.
* If you are just looking for a blender, type “blender”; if you know you want the Oster Beehive Chrome Blender, type “Oster Beehive Chrome Blender” into the search window.
3. If you want to limit your results, scroll to the bottom of the page, where you can limit the search by price range, brand, stores, or seller rating.
4. Click on the star rating below the name of the seller to read all the reviews of that seller.
* Just because it has a high rating does not mean it is a good store. A store with a 5-star rating but only one review may not be as good as one with a 4-star rating that has 1,000 reviews.
5. Click on “All Items From This Seller” under the name of the seller to view more items from that store.
6. If the store has not been rated and you are interested in it, then skip down to Step 3 to learn how to determine if an unknown retailer is trustworthy.
#
#
Other Comparison Shopping Sites
* Here are some other trusted, well known comparison shopping websites that work like Shopzilla:
o NexTag: Pulls results from a variety of retailers.
o ShopWiki: Does comparison shopping and also writes helpful buying guides.
o mySimon: Great for technology products, includes general products as well.
#
Step 3: Determine If An Unknown Retailer Is Trustworthy
* Often when you are searching for your product, especially if it is a specialty product, many unknown retailers will come up in your search results.
o But beware: there are many sketchy and untrustworthy retailers on the web, and if you’re not careful, you may wind up getting a bad product, having a bad experience, or worse, losing your money.
* You may decide that it’s better to stick to a trusted retailer, like Amazon.com or eBay. But sometimes a deal is too good to pass up – here’s how to determine if an unknown retailer is trustworthy and thus shop online more safely:
1. Check to see if it is secure. Does it have emblems that say “Hacker Safe”, “Verisign Secure” or “BBB Reliability Program”? Then it has been approved by a trustworthy organization. Retailers without these emblems often are not trustworthy.
2. Is it well-designed? Even if the retailer does not have a large budget for a fancy design, they will still have a clear and easy to navigate website. Retailers that have messy, ugly, poorly designed, and/or ad-heavy sites are almost certainly not trustworthy.
3. A trustworthy retailer will have a 1-800 or 1-888 number for you to call in order to reach their customer service. If they don’t provide any phone number that is cause for suspicion; if they don’t provide any contact information at all they are certainly not trustworthy.
4. Look for a good “About Us” section that includes information on the company’s policies, features, and even a brief history. If they’re not giving you that information, you probably don’t want to give them your money.
5. What is the site’s return policy? Reputable sellers stand by their products, and offer customers the opportunity to return items that aren’t up to par. If the return policy is restrictive, or non-existent, caveat emptor!
#
Step 4: Finding Bargains and Online Coupon Codes
* You found the best prices in Step 2, but don’t forget to check for coupons before you go to make a purchase! Many web sites compile information on sales going on at brick-and-mortar stores, as well as coupon codes that can be used if you order online. The most popular are FatWallet, DealCatcher and CouponCabin.
#
How to Use FatWallet
* FatWallet forums contain deals and coupons posted by other users, so be aware that they may expire or be invalid.
o To access results from the forums, you may have to create a user account. Registration is free.
1. Go to FatWallet.
2. Type the name of the product you’re looking for into the search window.
3. Check the “Hot Deals” link in the lefthand column to see current deals.
4. Read the listings to learn more about possible bargains.
FatWallet

#
How to Use DealCatcher
1. Go to DealCatcher.
2. To get coupon codes for a specific store, type in the name of the store in the Search window.
3. To get coupon codes and other bargains for specific products, type in the name of the product you’re looking for in the Search window.
#
How to Use CouponCabin
1. Go to CouponCabin.
2. To get coupon codes for a specific store, type in the name of the store in the Search window.
3. To get coupon codes and other bargains for specific products, type in the name of the product you’re looking for in the Search window.
#
Other Bargain Sites
* Here are some other trusted, well known bargain sites that operate in a similar fashion to comparison shopping sites. Simply type your product name into the search bar, and browse the results.
1. Yahoo! Shopping: A comparison shopping service that highlights products that are on sale, listing what the former price was so you can see how much you’re saving.
2. MSN Shopping: Essentially provides the exact same service as Yahoo! Shopping.
* Other sites offer list deals on different products. Simply visit, and choose the category that interests you to see if there are any current deals you can use.
1. TechDeals.net offers technology bargains.
2. DealNews.com lists deals on a variety of products.
#
Step 5: Paying For Items Online
* Now that you’ve found your item and made sure the site is trustworthy, it’s time to pay for your widget. There’s many stories about people having their credit card information stolen online. The following steps should protect you from identity theft.
Check that the site is secure before entering your credit card number. (Photo by Steve Woods)
1. Use the most recent version of your Internet browser. It will usually update automatically, but you can check for updates under the Help menu.
2. Check to see what the web site’s security policies are. They should be easy to find. If they’re not, that’s a red flag about the retailer’s trustworthiness!
3. Look for a little lock symbol at the bottom of your browser when you are submitting your information.
4. The letters “https” should appear at the beginning of the URL if you are on a page where you will submit your personal and credit card information.
5. Make sure to keep the receipt for what you purchased. You should be able to print one out at the end of your transaction.
6. Check your credit card statement for any errors.
7. Don’t ever give out your credit card information by instant messaging service or email.
8. Notify your credit card company immediately if anything fishy happens.

#
Step 6: Returning Items You Bought Online
* Hopefully you love your new item, but if not you should return it. Much like brick and mortar stores, online store return policies can be byzantine. Here’s some things to look out for.
1. Most stores require you to pay the return shipping for any returned item. Some require you to pay up front; others such as Amazon.com provide a return shipping label but will deduct the cost from your refund. The exception to this rule is online shoe store Zappos.com, who have a free return shipping policy.
* You should not have to pay a shipping fee if you received the incorrect item, or if it was damaged.
* If you ordered from the online section of a brick-and-mortar store, like Target or Sears, you may be able to return it in person instead of shipping it back.
2. Some stores will deduct a “restocking fee” from your refund. This is also common in brick-and-mortar stores, especially for electronics. Sears has a restocking fee on many items beyond electronics.
* You should not pay a restocking fee if the item was damaged or defective.
3. Some stores will not allow you to return items if their boxes have been opened.
4. Check the store’s time limit on returns. Many will only allow you to return an item within 14 to 30 days.
#
Conclusion
As online shopping continues to grow in popularity, shoppers have to be increasingly aware of the various scams associated with the convenience of online purchases. By following the above tips, you should be well on your way to spotting the deals and recognizing the scams.

Shop Online for Clothes That Fit!
If you love shopping like me, chances are you would already have done some shopping online. Online shopping offers great excitement and convenience to us busy women. Having to juggle work and family, many career women only found time for themselves after settling their family and children after a day’s work. Usually, by that time, the off-line shops are closed. With the wonderful array of shops available online, clothes shopping now offers an amazing range of variety and styles (some of which are only available overseas), all at a click of the mouse.
What are the benefits of online clothes shopping? You can do it in peace (think – no fussy toddlers and sulky teenagers bugging you to leave the store) and in the comfort of your own home (imagine settling into your favourite chair with a mug of coffee/tea) and let your fingertips do the work! The best part of online shopping? The shops are opened 24/7! You can shop at any time at your convenience!
While there may be challenges buying clothes online, here are four tips to ensure that your online clothes shopping be as fuss-free (you don’t want to waste your precious time), and as pleasant as possible.
Tip#1 Choose the Right Fit
You don’t want to waste money on clothes that don’t fit. If possible, buy clothes from shops with specific measurements of their clothes. Shops with size labels like ‘Small’, ‘Large’, Size 10 and Size 12 may differ when it comes down to the actual centimeters and inches. Therefore, the most reliable way to get the right fit is to know the actual centimeters / inches the clothes are in. A Size 10 for a label may be a size 12 for another. Chances are, shops which are able to offer specific measurements are serious about their business.
Tip#2 Get Yourself Measured
If you were to get the right fit, you need to get yourself measured, preferably by a professional tailor. And keep the measurements with you when you are shopping. If you cannot get yourself measured, then, the next best thing is to measure your clothes. To do so, just lay them flat on a hard surface (e.g. wooden table) and measure, using a tape measure, the key areas of shoulders, pit to pit, armhole, waist, hips and length. Alternatively, if you have a favourite label, whose clothes fit you well, check out their website and see if they provide specific measurements for their sizes.
In the same way, clothes measurements may be published in one of the two ways – based on the person wearing the size, or off the actual clothes pieces. Measurements off an actual blouse, for example, are measured when the clothes are laid flat. The bust measurements are usually read as pit-to-pit measurement (the horizontal length from one armpit to the other). So, a pit-to-pit of 44cm, for example, would fit a bust size of about 88cm (depending on the stretchability of the materials).
Tip#3 Clear Your Queries
It is important that, if you have any queries, to send them to the customer service. Legitimate shops will publish their emails and contacts for customers to contact them. Some shops have online forms for queries to be sent to them directly on their websites so that you do not have to open your email browser. Many shops also have Facebook pages for you to interact with them. If you have any queries with regard to the issues of fit and quality of the clothes (for example if a certain fabric is sheer), it is good, at this juncture to raise them to be answered. You could also request for more pictures of the products where relevant.
With all these in tow, it is easy to enjoy online clothes shopping without the stress, without the mess and with all the fun intact!

Do’s and Don’ts while Shopping online
Online shopping has become the first preference for all of us when need to buy something. We prefer to buy online rather than to go to the local mall, wander around in the midst of crowd, wait in the long queue for your turn to pay the bill, and end up with parking trouble at the end of it all. But, when it comes to online shopping, whether you are actually buying, just browsing or comparing prices and products its fun, fast and easy. The only part that you need to pay attention to is the security measures while making the purchases and funds transactions. If one is careful and uses a few smart shopping tips and security tools, then shopping online can be just as safe as shopping at the mall.
There are certain “Do’s” and some “Don’ts” when it comes to online shopping and making monetary transactions. These “Do’s” and “Don’ts” should be kept in mind while making purchases using coupon codes, promo codes and several sites offering online cash back and rebates. These Do’s and Don’ts are:
Do:
1. Basic Groundwork: If you’re shopping on a website for the first time, then take a moment to read about the website. Before clicking on buy, read the terms and conditions that are given in small letters before purchase and transactions happen. If you are using coupon codes, promo codes or cash back, then you should be more careful in reading the conditions.
2. Prefer to Pay by Credit card: Online payment services offer some protection as well. While making your online payments you should always give your credit card first preference as it increases the degree of security. And even if your Credit card is misused or stolen, the law will facilitate in reducing your financial liability to a minimum.
3. Prefer to Buy from an Encrypted website: An encrypted website secures your fund transfers by coding your personal information.
4. Read Policies before purchase: It is a good habit to read terms and conditions and website policies before making any online purchase. A secured and trusted website always disclaims their policies in direct and obvious words. Never jump to buy the products without reading policies of the website seller.
5. Use Latest Computer security tools: Your computer system should always be equipped with the latest antivirus and security tools that effectively prevent malware and spy ware from damaging your computers.
6. Always check your bill statements for purchases made: Last but not the least always check your credit card statement for that month to reconfirm the amount you paid for the online purchase.
Don’t:
1. Buy from spammers: Be alert to those e mails that give you instant cash back and discounts on providing Credit card information. They are generally spammers and scammers looking for a quick buck. It’s always a risky deal.
2. Pay by debit card, cash, or wire transfer: Try to avoid paying from Debit card or cash until and unless it is inevitable. As it would directly take funds from your bank account and there is no liability of the bank if fraud occurs.
3. Buy from uncertified websites: your personal and financial information should not be at risk at any point. Don’t compromise & buy from uncertified websites where hackers are waiting to track your information to deceive you.
4. Buy from a web site that you’re not comfortable with: If it looks too good to be true, it probably is. At any time you don’t feel comfortable buying from the website, abort the process right there. Sometime intuition is more reliable then what we see.
5. Forget to scrutinize your new purchase on delivery: As soon as you receive your order check it completely and if you find any defect communicate to your seller immediately for replacements or refunds.
Hope and wish you a Happy online shopping experience.

Jewelry Gift Ideas – Tips on How to Buy Jewelry for Different People
Are you thinking of buying fashion jewelry as a gift but don’t know where to begin? The first thing to do is consider her personality. Here are some common personality types and ideas on what jewelry to consider for each of them.
The Intellectual:
The intellectual woman is of course intelligent, slightly reserved and dresses in classic, simple outfits. This woman will appreciate jewelry that is understated, elegant, and of good quality. A simple chain in gold or silver would be perfect for a necklace. For earrings, small studs or understated hoops would be perfect to complement her classic sense of style. Or choose a thin bracelet like a thin silver bracelet with small subtle gemstones or beads.
The Romantic:
The romantic woman is the ultimate girly-girl, and loves anything that is ultra feminine in nature. She wears skirts, dresses, is frequently found in floral prints, and finds the silver lining in any cloud. This woman likes to feel every inch of being a woman, and her jewelry should match. When shopping for her, think about strings of pearls, dangly earrings, and floral pendants. Wrapping it up in pretty paper with a bow would just take the cake. And yes, she likes different shades of pinks, purples, and reds.
The Soccer Mom:
The soccer mom is all about practicality and has to keep herself and her busy family on track. Forget earrings that dangle – this mom needs studs that do not tangle in her hair or the strap of her bag. Similarly, choose simple necklaces and bracelets to match. Keep jewelry simple and practical for this woman, and she will know that you understand her lifestyle.
The Socialite:
The socialite is the woman who is outgoing, friendly, and frequently the center of attention. She likes taking risks and will do so with her jewelry as well. When you go shopping for her, think about bright, bold colors, interesting textures, and chunky and geometrical designs. Her jewelry should be as unique as she is. Layers of chains, large pendants, wide bangles, and bubble sized beads are for her.
The Naturalist:
The Naturalist is the woman who likes all things in her life to be as natural as possible, from wearing 100% organic cotton or silk to eating organic foods – her body is a temple! The colors she chooses are usually earth tones like shades of brown, green, blue, orange, and white. Her jewelry should be made of natural materials as well. While some metals are acceptable to her, her jewelry almost always includes stones, but not necessarily precious stones. A blue agate or jade pendant and matching earrings would be perfect, as well as other polished rocks and stones.
The Eclectic:
Similar to the Socialite, this woman is almost always the center of attention, but bold in a different way. She likes to mix of vintage and trendy styles – she will take classic pearls and match them with art deco inspired rhinestone earrings. Shop a mix of vintage and trendy styles to give her the ability to mix and match on a whim.
In conclusion, shopping for fashion jewelry isn’t as hard as it seems. Though there are thousands of styles to choose from, you can easily narrow it down based on the above guidelines. Often, the person you are shopping for will fall into more than one of the above personalities – so use these ideas as a starting point when exploring the possibilities.

5 Tips For Buying Jewelry Online
While jewelry sales at brick-and-mortar locations far outnumber online jewelry purchases, the trend for online jewelry shopping is quickly gaining popularity. Purchasing jewelry online offers may advantages, the biggest being saving a ton of money. While the reward increases, the risk increases as well. When purchasing diamond jewelry online you should feel safe and secure about the retailer you’re purchasing with and the transaction security. There are simple precautions you can take to safeguard yourself against not-so-honest online retailers and ensure you get exactly what you paid for. Below are 5 simple methods to ensure a safe experience when buying diamond jewelry online:
1- Know the exact details of the item you are purchasing. Many online jewelry retailers do not provide all the necessary information about the product they are selling. Factors such as Total Carat Weight, Diamond Color and Clarity, the number of diamonds included in the item, the quality of gold or metal, etc. should all be clearly identified. If you are missing just one of these pieces of information, you may not end up with the item you believe you are purchasing.
2- Always check the return policy. Even if you have all the specifications of the item and are quite confident it is exactly what you want, you should always have the option to return it. Be sure to examine the Return Policy closely and ensure you can return the item even if you just don’t like it. Some online retailers only allow returns if the item is damaged, some charge a restocking fee and many online retailers will only provide 5-7 days to return the ring. The optimal policy will allow you to return the item within 30 days with no questions asked.
3- Does the company offer any type of warranty? What happens if a diamond falls out 2 days after you receive the jewelry? It is then most likely a manufacturer’s defect and you should not be held responsible to repair it. Make sure the company offers some sort of free protection plan or warranty to cover manufacturer’s defects.
4- Is the online retailer a member of the Better Business Bureau? Don’t just assume they are if they show the seal! A 1 minute online inquiry with the BBB will show if the company is an accredited member and if they’ve received any complaints within the last 12 months. Also look to see if the company belongs to any industry organizations. Any reputable jewelry retailer will have membership to jewelry organizations.
5- Is the site secure? Make sure the site uses SSL encryption software and has a privacy policy in tact. They should state clearly that they do not share or sell your personal information with any outside sources. If they don’t state the security features prominently, most likely it’s because they don’t have it!
Purchasing jewelry online can save you a lot of money and afford you a beautiful piece of jewelry. Be cautious and follow the above practices and you should have a safe online shopping experience!

How to Shop Online
With the convenience, limitless selection, and incredible deals, Internet shopping is quickly becoming essential to our daily lives. But to take full advantage of the deals and shopping options available online, it pays to bring some shopping know-how with you into cyberspace. Being informed about return policies, shipping costs and sales can not only save you a lot of headaches, but can also save you some cash as well.
Finding the Right Online Store
The first step to any successful shopping trip is finding the right store to visit. That goes for brick and mortar shopping or browsing online. To ensure that you are dealing with a reputable retailer, do a bit of research before you start adding items to your virtual shopping cart. Ask plenty of questions to yourself when browsing through the site. Does this website have a physical address that you would be able to contact? Does the site have approval seals from independent organizations like the Better Business Bureau?
But don’t stop there. Take the time to click on one of these approval seals to make sure they’re valid, as some disreputable sites will post images of seals to falsify their credentials. Also, type the company’s name into a search engine to review what other shoppers have to say about their shopping experience here. It’s always a good idea to start your search with a large, well known online store. This way, you can see how a transaction is properly handled, which will help you spot red flags when doing business with lesser known online stores.
Secure Online Shopping
One of the biggest concerns that keep many people from taking the plunge into the world of e-commerce is credit card and identity theft. They worry that if there credit card information is put online it can be easily stolen. Although you should be vigilant to only shop on secure sites, this fear shouldn’t keep you from enjoying the many benefits of online shopping. Even in-store purchases go through cyberspace, so avoiding online stores won’t guard you against credit card theft.
However, what will ensure your protection is shopping on secure sites. When making a purchase online, you should only provide credit card information over a secure site. How do you know if a site is secure? That’s the easy part! Secure sites will have an “https” in the address bar, rather than the standard “http.” That “s” stands for secure and you can also look for a small padlock icon on the bottom of the browser window to know for sure that this site is secure.
When checking out, you will probably be asked to provide your name, telephone number, address and credit/debit card information. A business site should never ask for your social security number or mother’s maiden name. These are both red flags that should alert you to leave this site.
To shop with even more confidence, you can use a payment website like PayPal. Here you only need to give your credit card or bank information to PayPal and then have the advantage of paying on other sites through PayPal.
Smart Online Shipping
If there was ever a drawback to online shopping, it is the shipping costs that are often associated with online purchases. However, shipping shouldn’t be a reason to avoid online shopping. Many outlets offer free or reduced shipping and all it takes is a quick shopping search to come up with competitive shipping rates. It also pays to check the shipping price before moving on to check out. Many times sites will feature a shipping assessor that will calculate the cost of delivery to your specific location. Although shipping can sometimes seem like a pain, it actually probably costs less than the gas and time required to travel to a traditional brick and mortar store to make a purchase, especially when you add in the extra expenses of impulse buys and then lunch at the food court.
Review the Online Return Policy
Any reputable e-commerce site will clearly state its return policy. It pays to review this before you make a purchase. Many people wait until they have a problem with a product before they go back to check on the company’s policies. There is usually a time frame for returns — generally 30 days is a good policy to look for.
You also want to inquire about return shipping policies, as some sites do not reimburse you for the extra cost of a return shipment, sometimes making a return not worth the effort. Another important feature to look for is a receptive customer service unit. Send a test inquiry to see how responsive the site is to its customer’s needs and you’ll get a good feel for the treatment you will receive once you become a customer.
Shopping online should simplify your life. By following some basic safe surfing practices you can ensure that every purchase you make online brings you great results.

Shop Online And Get The Best Selection
More products are being bought online than ever before. The Internet has opened up the world to shoppers. It’s a snap to buy a product from an Italian company or from your local neighborhood store. From cruises to crackers to cocker spaniels just about anything can be bought online. Shoppers use the Internet because it’s convenient, it saves time and there’s no sales pressure. It’s also easy to comparison shop, save money and get the best selection; all without leaving home!
Convenience
There are no geographic limitations to the World Wide Web, so it’s possible to shop anywhere in the world. Business hours are not limited to nine to five but are open 24/7.
Mothers can shop while kids take their naps, first thing in the morning before the rest of the household wakes up or late into the evening. People with mobility challenges don’t have to worry about whether or not the bricks and mortar store is accessible. Senior citizens can conserve their energy and narrow down their product selection in the comfort of their living room.
Most online shopping is completed using credit cards. A credit card purchase provides an extra layer of buyer protection if the purchase doesn’t turn out as advertised. Security has improved on the Internet where it’s probably safer than handing a sales clerk a credit card for purchases.
Merchandise purchased is delivered with no worries to the buyer about how they will get their purchase home. Delivery is often free or available at no charge with a small minimum purchase.
Save Time
Buyers can shop immediately without wasting time changing clothes, traveling to the store or cruising the mall. No more hassling over crowded parking lots, shopping during crowded weekend hours or after work. Online shopping saves gas and wear and tear on the car.
No Sales Pressure
Sales people in the stores do provide information about their products and competitors, but that information is biased to produce a sale. While most sales people won’t out and out lie, unless the questions are phrased properly they also won’t divulge information that puts their product in an unfavorable light. There are no sales people online breathing down the customer’s neck corralling them into making a purchase. Sales copy on a website has to be honest and straightforward, otherwise there may be problems with the Federal Trade Commission for false advertising.
Ease of Comparison
It is possible to shop for a specific make and model of a product or by general category. Comparing the products, their benefits and specifications is much easier online than off. Printing the information from the screens makes it easy to decide which product is the best for you.
Cost Savings
Since online shops don’t have to have a bricks and mortar store or sales staff, prices may be lower. It’s easy to compare prices across products, manufacturers and models, as well as inquire about discounts and coupons. Some stores offer special online discounts that aren’t available in stores.
Many stores rely on impulse purchases. For example: the bookstore knows you may intend on just purchasing the latest and greatest bestseller. They also know the odds are you’ll also purchase the recent Harry Potter book, a couple of magazines, and a thriller that looks intriguing even though you didn’t come into the store for those items. Shopping online cuts down on impulse purchases because you don’t see them.
Best Selection of Products
Imagine being able to compare every pearl necklace from every retailer to get exactly what you want and the price you want. It would take several days to do that kind of comparison shopping in a bricks and mortar mall by stopping at each jeweler and each store that offers fine jewelry. By the time you finished the odds are you would have forgotten the details of the pearl necklaces you saw at the first store.
Online shopping isn’t limited to physical products either. Shop for airline tickets, event tickets, consulting help, even a cruise vacation, online for the best selection.
Finding the best selection of products is much easier with search engines, shopping sites, and search capability within a site and across sites based on quality, price and product attributes. There are sites which will find the best price for the product no matter where online it’s offered.
When shopping online make sure the retailer has a stated return policy. Know how much shipping will cost. It’s a nasty surprise to learn that you saved money on the product only to pay it all back and more to have the item shipped to you. Print out and save all receipts and email correspondence. Know what company name will show up on your credit card statement for the purchase. Each month compare your purchases to your credit card statement. Follow up on any that you aren’t sure about or that don’t match your receipts.
Shopping online is easy, convenient, fun and often gets you the best selection of products at the best price to choose from.
